Well Visits...

So all is good health wise in the Smith household. We had well checks today for both. Ryleigh was 41 lbs and 3 foot 8 inches tall. Carter 20lbs 9oz (95%) and 28 inches (95%). He had 1 shot with 3 vaccines in it and didn't even cry. Such a big boy. I opted out of a couple of shots...not big on them which drives Josh crazy but really do we need a pneumonia shot, flu shot, H1N1 shot, diarrhea mist.....I think not. All that yucky stuff being injected into little bodies is not good. Just my 2 cents and my kids, so I get to have that opinion! Hopefully we'll stay healthy as we head up north to South Dakota for the week. We'll leave Friday and come home the following Saturday. I'm very excited, we haven't spent a Thanksgiving with my family in a long time, I know it has been at least since we've lived in Texas (almost 7 years) so it's long overdue. Josh and I are both ready for a week of relaxation, and maybe a date night or knowing my parents, they'll kick us out every night just so they can have the kids. Let's just pray that Carter does better in the car this trip....or Daddy and I will be stopping for ear plugs!

Kristy's visit

So my little sis came down for Carter's dedication. A LONG overdue visit from her. What a wonderful weekend it was though. Ryleigh was glued to her for 3 days. We were busy with stuff to do but did manage to make it down to the West End of Dallas to see the JFK memorial and have some barbecue for lunch. I realized also that I am a dummy and didn't take ANY pictures with her. So here she is with the kids and Josh too.

Carter's Dedication

Last Sunday we had Carter dedicated. For those of you who don't know what that is, cause I sure didn't, it's basically like a baptism, it's a parent commitment service saying that we will raise Carter as a christian in our home. Thanks to our family and small group who attended. It was very special to Josh and I and we were so happy that friends and family could share the day with us.

Tres Leches cake, meaning 3 milks, was one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth...hmmmm so good.

I'm 6 months old!

Here I am having fun with my friend Josh

My sister put this hat on me AND took the picture. I think I'd make a pretty girl.

Happy Halloween

Okay so I'm a few weeks late but better than never! Ryleigh was a southern belle and Carter was a pirate. We started the festivites by going to the annual block party at Josh's mom's where they had a chili cook off and a pinata and cake walk for the kids. Kristy and Eddie and the kids joined us there and then we all went back to our house to trick or treat. Josh and I like this night because we can catch up with the neighbors, unfortunately Ry and her friends were running so fast from house to house we couldn't keep up. Fun night filled with candy that will be thrown away soon. Ryleigh forgets it's on top of the fridge anyway. And Josh and I have picked out what we like already!

Party Time

Wow, I seriously didn't think all of the kids would show up....But most of them did! It was so cute to see everybody dressed up in costume. We played pin the tail on the cat, had a pinata and the bounce house was a hit of course. I forget how crazy boys are.....they are so much different than girls. Next year I think we'll cut the number in half. There were over 20 kiddos here. Thankfully it was a beautiful day and we spent most of it outside!

Early birthday celebration

One more week until our baby turns 5! Gigi will be out of town for a while and will miss her birthday so we celebrated on Sunday. Ryleigh decided she wanted Gloria's, her favorite Mexican restaurant, yum! She loves the black bean dip, she must get that love from her dad because I don't touch any beans. She was so surprised when the servers came over to sing happy birthday to her, "Happy Birthday Mamasita!" She kept saying, "how did they know it was going to be my birthday?!"

After lunch we headed over to Alley Cats for bowling and games. She had so much fun, she said at one point, "THIS IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!"

Here's everyone, we had a great time! Josh even won a Nintendo DS in one of the machines!! Happy birthday Ryleigh! She will be excited when she opens it, her cousin Emma has one and she is always wanting to play it, now she'll have her own!

Now I have the week to get the house ready for her birthday party here. I have no idea how many kids will be here....yikes!

Punkin Patch

What a beautiful day for the pumpkin patch. We went here last year too, it's just a small patch next to a church. They let you come and take pictures and in exchange want you to buy there outrageously expensive pumpkins! Totally worth it though. The kids did really well. I think this is the first time we actually got Carter to smile on camera! I guess he is finally getting used to the black thing in his face flashing, it's only been almost 6 months! We had a couple people even volunteer to take our family picture so we could all be in one. I love nice strangers.

Six Flags!

Ryleigh is totally fearless when it comes to rides so we have been taking advantage of our season passes. She would like to go on more rides but she's not tall enough yet. I have a feeling she will be next year. She went on the pirate ship with Josh and with Runaway Mine Train with me. It was also nice to not have Carter with us, he stayed with Gigi for a few hours. We'll probably go once more for Holiday in the Park, where it's decorated for Christmas.

5 Months

So our little guy is growing so fast. Here he is at 5 months. He is so long and chubby. I love the rolls!
He is rolling all over now. Gone are the days of setting him on the bed or couch....I miss those days already. And I'm SO not ready for the getting all over the place days...hopefully they are a few months away.

Updates for Sharon

So I've been really bad about blogging lately. I rarely get a chance to get on the computer during the day and at night I just want to climb into bed. I think it's time for a laptop! So this will be for my aunt Sharon cause how can she keep up with the Smith's if I'm not blogging?! October is so busy for us every year and this one is no exception.

Hangin with Daddy

First and last bath in the sink.

Carter LOVES his sister, she makes him smile and laugh all of the time.

Last week I had to take Carter in to the doctor. He got a bad cough and was running a fever but the Dr. couldn't find anything so he tested him for the dreaded H1N1 flu. Thankfully it was negative but he probably did have some sort of virus. (He weighed 18 lbs 12oz.) The fever only lasted a day but his poor little nose is still yucky and he's still coughing which is keeping him up which is keeping me up. We are now back to not sleeping through the night....I dream of the days when I can get a full nights sleep again. Literally. Carter is just not a great sleeper. Extremely hard to get to sleep and we're lucky if we get 45 minutes out of him. Other than that, he's perfect!

Now on to his sister. She currently has ZERO toys in her room and it's been that way for almost 3 weeks. Poor girl just has a temper and wants to control everything. Little miss queenie bo beenie thinks that what she says is what goes.....needless to say, she's having a rough time right now, but I think she's s l o w l y "getting it". She is VERY excited about turning 5, I on the other hand, am not ready for it. I don't know what it is about the number 5 but it makes me feel old.

Next week Josh and I will celebrate 7 years together. The place we are at now is so good, I am excited about each day with him and our family.

Labor Day weekend

The directors from ProStaff were invited to the big boss' lake house over the Labor Day weekend with families. It was so much fun. We left Carter with Josh's mom and drove out east. Much different than the cabins I'm used to in MN. This was a beautiful lake home. All of the kids are great swimmers so they took turns jumping off the dock, (from the top level it's about 15 feet) riding the jet ski, tubing and fishing. This was Ryleigh's first real experience in a lake so she was very concerned about fish biting her feet. She also got a splinter in her foot which she lost her freaking mind over.

Josh and I also thought we could stay up until 5 am. Never doing that again. The next day was super fun with 3 hours of sleep. We had a birthday party and a family gathering at our house. I now realize I am TOO OLD to stay up past my bedtime.

Josh was fishing with just a line, no pole, and caught 3 fish off of the dock.

Swimming in the lake.

She did it..........

So we've had the talk and I've been waiting for this to happen eventually and yesterday she finally did it.

She cut her own hair! Thankfully it was only a tiny curl but I walked by it and picked it up and there it was a little blonde curl. I am just not ready to let go of them yet. She does not like her hair, mostly because it hurts so much to brush through it and it gets so tangled so easily. She keeps saying she wants to cut it like mine. NOPE! Sorry not yet......maybe before Kindergarten next year.

Carter is beginning to babble a lot....reminds me a lot of his very talkative sister. He is getting close to rolling over on to his stomach and is putting EVERYTHING in his mouth. With the excessive drooling I'm thinking we may have a tooth coming soon. I still am amazed at how much he looks like his sister did. Josh was happy at softball on Tuesday, 2 people told him that Carter looked just like him.

Back to Texas!

Finally things are back to normal after a month of vacation and visitors. Ry started school on Thursday, I am thrilled with her new class. The teachers seem super organized and way on top of things. They said on the first day that Ryleigh was very sweet and very smart and that she said the lunch time prayer. Hopefully the "sweetness" will last throughout the year!

Carter had his 4 month check up today and is doing great besides a nasty runny nose. He is now 16 pounds 12 oz. and 25.5 inches. Quite the big boy. He still hates doing his tummy time and I very rarely make him do it....he'll probably never roll over but it's okay, I want him to stay my baby forever. He started eating cereal and fruits and veggies about a month ago but when I took him in to the chiropractor to get adjusted she scolded me so we are waiting again until about 6 months. He is drooling like crazy and putting everything in his mouth, I'm sure teeth will be here soon.

Last week LeAnn and Ally made a trip down from Mn. We had a low key week of laying out by the pool and breaking up the constant fighting between Ry and Ally. They are so much alike that they constantly bicker and then play, then fight, then play. Besides the cold being passed around to everyone but me, the week was fun.

The Farm

Okay, so I realize that you have to watch the video sideways, but it is so worth it. We went to a farm while in South Dakota and Ry got to pick eggs and feed the animals. They had chickens, turkeys, emus, pigs and these goats called Fainting Goats. When they are being chased they literally seize up and fall over. So Josh thought it would be funny to chase them of course and it really did fall over and faint. I didn't think to catch it on video until the second time he tried it and it didn't go like the first time....
